Democracy is synonymous to participation. The best way for each one of us to participate in democracy is to vote. India's most awaited and impacting election - Loksabha 2019, is knocking the doors. As we roll up our sleeves, let's ensure that our fellow citizens with disability are with us - participating in the elections at par with others. Thankfully election commission of India and of Maharashtra are leaving no stone unturned to ensure disability friendly elections. It is a mammoth task to train human resources, mobilize society and motivate PWDs to cast their valuable votes. HACSE proudly registers her squirrel's share in the process by providing consultancy to TRINAYANI in developing printed and AV material towards making election 2019 a fruitful experience for our friends with disabilities. TRINAYANI supported by HACSE has developed following material for election commission.
1) Leaflet for PWD s (English/ Hindi/ Marathi).
2) Leaflet for human resources involved in election process (English/ Hindi/ Marathi).
3) Promotional AV for awareness in accessible format. (English/ Hindi/ Marathi)
Please use these materials available free for creating awareness and to empower human resource.

I am that I am.. Are you?
Indian society is now awakening to the rights and capacities of the persons with disabilities. Yet, we are far away from our national dream of inclusive and right based society. Several organizations across the country develop and release material to change the mindset of the people. National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH- Trivendrum ) is one such pro-active organization which developed a beautiful poem based AV to advocate 'normalcy' of persons with disabilities - 'I am that I am'. NISH rightly wanted it to be translated into several Indian languages. HACSE, supported the activity by translating the poem and screen play into Marathi, Urdu and Bangali. HACSE humbly requests you to download the same and to use for your training and sensitizing attempts.

The Suman Ramesh Tulsiani Charitable Trust is one of the largest trusts in India founded in 1989 with the objective of providing financial support to students in higher education. Mrs.Suman Tulsiani the unstoppable young lady who has seen over 80 monsoons is the backbone of the SRTCT .
It was pride and privilege for the team HACSE to interact with her and share the perspective on need for efficient and well groomed special teachers to fulfill the dream of education for all. Endorsing our thought process, she herself blessed our 20 students with love and a token of financial support. This partial payment of the fees by the SRTCT will go a long way in ensuring sustainable man power development in the field of special education.
A big thank you to SRTCT on behalf our students, staff and management.

ADHIKAR: PARENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM 2016As all the concerned already know HACSE organizes one certificate course for the parents of young children with hearing impairment. For this year the course started on 1/12/16. There are 17 parents who have enrolled for this program out of which 03 are fathers. HACSE particularly encourage the fathers to take advantage of this course to ensure their participation in the process of providing overall stimulation to the child. During ADHIKAR, college invites various resource persons from the field of education, child development, psychology, special education, parenting, disability management, social work, food and nutrition science etc. The aim of this is to develop advocacy skills in parents and make them aware of their rights. The program helps them to look at their child as child first and know about the special needs after that. Interested parents, resource persons, donors please contact program coordinator Dr Sirur on 022 25531041. ALUMNI MEETHACSE is organizing alumni meet on 25th Dec 2016 to form an association of the alumni. A motivational workshop has been organized by eminent resource person in the area of role of teacher and her /his personality in shaping students behaviour Dr Guha has been organized under UGC funding. Around 60 alumni and 30 current students have enrolled for the program. Interested alumni please contact Ms Sandya Pagare for registration. GOOD BYE TO VETERAN PROFESSIONAL Dr Lakshmi GOPALKRISHNANDr Lakshmi Gopalkrishnan has given long 16 years to the development of HACSE. The college says a goodbye to her as she is superannuating on 31st Dec 2016. We all have a feeling of deep gratitude and respect for this veteran professional who has contributed positively to the field of special education. She has worked as special teacher for 11 years before joining HACSE. She is a teacher by profession and a learner by passion. The college is going to feel the vacuum created by her superannuation in terms of activities and tasks for sure but also in terms of emotional support. Management, staff and students wish her a very fulfilling and healthy retired life. CRE program on literacy developmentThe college has organized a special CRE program on literacy development on 24th and 25th Jan 2017. This is exclusively for the trained and RCI registered teachers of RTT High School. The aim is to facilitate a consistent policy of literacy development in school. ARUSHI - Our newsletterB.Ed (Special Education - Hearing Impairment) is the single most significant activity of HACSE , around which revolve all the other activities. Most of our B Ed (HI) students are from either semi urban areas of outskirts of Mumbai or from other small towns of Maharashtra where B Ed (SE -HI) programs are not available. There is a vast difference between urban metro areas and the rest of the Maharshtra in terms of avenues to upgrade the skills and knowledge of in service teachers. Hence, we at HACSE are much concerned about in service up gradation of our alumni. HACSE tries to keep the alumni in the loop of recent developments through various ways. One of our highly successful efforts towards this direction is ARUSHI our annual newsletter. It is the strongest link between us and our alumni. HACSE has been publishing and distributing ARUSHI for a decade now. It is published on 22nd February every year. Eminent rehabilitation professionals, special educators, government officials, parents, individuals with disabilities contribute to this newsletter in order to make it reader friendly having a long shelf value. AARAMBHA - Disability Orientation program for Mainstream teachersConventionally, the child with disabilities were to be enrolled in special set up as the first choice and then will be sent to a mainstream set up whenever he/she is ready for it. However, now inclusive education is seen to be the first choice for ALL children, including those who may or may not need specialised pre school training. In short, a big number of children with diverse needs will enter mainstream schools in near future. It will greatly benefit non impaired students without special needs. It will certainly facilitate the process of making schools and society more inclusive and diversity friendly One of the biggest challenge is of training the classroom teachers in order to make them ready for their students with diverse abilities and hence diverse classroom needs. As one of the pro active contributions towards this herculean task, HACSEattempts at training mainstream school teachers on various educationally relevant issues. Since for many teachers our training program is the first time they get systematic exposure to disability issues, we have named the training program AARAMBHA - mark of a beginning of a long lasting relationship between special and mainstream education. The objective of the program is to give skill based training to classroom teachers on recognizing disability, encouraging assessment through rehabilitation professionals and facilitating their education in classrooms. Scholarship SchemeNational Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) is implementing two schemes of Scholarship for Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India for the student with disabilities. Under these schemes, 2000 new scholarships are provided every year for pursuing higher/professional/technical courses. The details of scheme are available on NHFDC's website www.nhfdc.nic.in ANUBHOOTI - Annual State level conference for special teachersTeaching is a dynamic profession. Skills, knowledge and attitude acquired today may appear obsolete tomorrow. This is basically because the so called ’takers’ of education - our students are evolving rapidly. Pedagogy as a science and art is too evolving rapidly. Earlier, education was looked at as ’a bulk of information given by the teachers and taken by the students’. Today we know that the knowledge is not given or taken but created and recreated in the classroom within the context of students’ experience. This dynamism of education is applicable to special education. Globally, a great amount of research is carried out in the field of educational issues of children with special needs due to which classroom processes can improve daily. It is believed that B Ed colleges which are tuned for teacher preparation can shoulder this responsibility. Towards this purpose, HACSE conducts an annual conference every year for the in service teachers of the students with deafness - ANUBHOOTI. This aims at awakening the teachers to newer notions and practices in the field of general as well as special education. This is held in second week of June every year and almost 300 to 350 teachers from all over Maharashtra attend this conference. Appropriate numbers of credit points are awarded by the RCI to the participating teachers. For the next ANUBHOOTI, please write to principal.hacse@gmail.com |
