Process of language learning in a normal child is a natural process but with special child having hearing loss it is not so.
Special efforts have to be made to teach communicative and textual language to the children having hearing loss.
For Developing Language skills of special children, ‘Aural - Oral & ‘Total communication’ approaches are used by our Teachers
Aural-oral is a method in which children learn to use whatever residual hearing they have in combination with lip reading and contextual cues (speech reading) to understand and use spoken language.
Total-communication is a method of interacting, in which children with language impairment using a combination of spoken language and signs which includes sign language, lip reading, finger spelling, amplification, writing gesture and visual imagery.
In our school there are 2-3 classes where students are taught through total communication methodology. It is seen that with this method students become confident are able to remember new words easily, can express and follow questions easily.
